Emilia Tombolesi

Emilia is an Italian designer based in London whose practice is driven by material exploration. Her work focuses on the relationship between process and form, allowing materials to shape the final outcome.

Her experience at Grymsdyke Farm deepened her hands-on approach, reinforcing process-led design. Her latest collection, ETNA, explores the interplay between thin, hammered aluminium sheets and Jesmonite. The sheets act as both structure and mould, guiding the Jesmonite as it sets. This results in sculptural yet functional pieces that balance raw materiality with refined craftsmanship.
Inspired by natural landscapes—volcanic eruptions, water ripples, and geological formations—Emilia’s work merges industrial techniques with organic forms. Her design methodology prioritises experimentation, embracing imperfection as part of the making process. Through this approach, she creates objects that tell a story of transformation, tactility, and process.
