Miyelle
Miyelle Karmi is a ceramic artist from London whose work is an exploration of the balance between the organic and the abstract, reflecting the juxtaposition of the contradictory and often surprising nature of human experience. A self-taught artist, she started hand-building with clay in 2017 in retaliation against working with the digital screen in her graphic design work. Her background in design has influenced her work and this can be seen in the way she experiments with exaggerated shapes and proportions to create harmony and balance. Smooth curves often intertwine with sharp edges and clean lines, suggesting the constant flux between stability and change. She uses this play between scale, shape and space to create whimsical forms that capture the imagination. Exploring themes around transformation, emotional experience and human connection, her work is an attempt to create pieces that represent the beauty of the shapes of our lives.
