Spalted Beech Hollow Stool
Made from spalted beech and built by hand in Neal’s studio, the stool explores repetition, negative space, and the natural variation found in timber.
The design came out of a period of workshop experimentation. Four curved segments meet to form a central void — a detail that gives the stool both its name and its quietly graphic feel. Each stool is completely unique. The spalted beech, marked by marbled grain caused by natural fungal activity, is matched carefully across the eight components that make up each piece. The result is a collection that shares a common form but varies subtly in tone and pattern.
Each Hollow Stool is made in Glasgow by Neal Cameron using spalted beech. The top is CNC-machined for precision; legs are hand-cut and assembled using dominos and glue. The piece is sanded smooth and finished with a clear lacquer for durability.
Due to the grain of the timber, each stool is unique and the stool you receive may be different to the image.
Materials: Spalted Beech, Lacquered and sanded
Dimensions: 45cm (H) x 35cm (D)
